Роберт Уильям Гэри Мур (Robert William Gary Moore) — родился 04.04.1952г., во втором по численности населения Северной Ирландии, в городе Белфаст. И, даже будучи уже на вершине славы, учился у всех понемногу, стремился к экспериментам. И в результате сформировался лирически-пронизывающий стиль — неповторимый стиль Гэри Мура. Его музыка, более четырех десятков лет является очень популярной, способной пробудить порой даже самые противоречивые чувства. Радость и печаль, веселье и грусть самым гармоничным образом искусно сливаются в его гитарном соло. И без преувеличения можно сказать, что поколение 70 – 80 и 90-х годов выросло на этой музыке.
Природный, что называется «от бога» талант гитариста проявился у Гэри Мура в очень раннем возрасте. Ещё, будучи ребёнком, в восьмилетнем возрасте, Гэри Мур начал изучение акустической гитары. И как рассказывал он сам: «…друг показал мне всего один аккорд и дальше всё пошло само собой…».
В 1968 году Гэри Мур начал свою музыкальную карьеру, создав блюз-роковую группу «Skid Row» в составе: Фила Лайнотта (вокал), Брендана Шилдса (бас) и Ноэла Бриджмэна (ударники).
Группа просуществовала недолго и с уходом из группы «Skid Row» вокалиста Фила Лайнотта, Гэри Мур создал «Dr. Strangely Strange», записав два альбома.
В 1973 году Гэри Мур создал группу «The Gary Moore Band» в составе: Джона Кёртиса (бас-гитариста) и Пирса Келли (ударники). Стиль самых первых произведений Гэри Мура в большей степени являлся вариацией музыкальных произведений Джеффа Бека, а к середине 1970-х годов, поддавшись влиянию Карлоса Сантаны, Гэри смог выработать свою личную манеру исполнения.
В начале 1974 года Фил Лайнотт пригласил Мура в группу «Thin Lizzy» вместо Эрика Бэлла, но по прошествии четырех месяцев гитарист ушёл в группу «Colosseum II» (Джона Хайсмена). Этот переход дал Гэри Муру максимум возможностей к реализации самостоятельных проектов. Альбомы 1976 и 1977 годов содержат его вокальные партии. За время работы Гэри Мура в «Colosseum II» были записаны три альбома. Не лишним будет упомянуть, что через группу «Colosseum II» прошли многие очень известные музыканты, которые впоследствии создавали свои сольные, весьма успешные проекты. И Гэри Мур не был исключением. Его мечтой было создание собственного сольного проекта.
Гэри Мур скоропостижно скончался 06.02.2011г.
Музыкант был обнаружен мёртвым в номере отеля «Kempinski Resort» в курортном городке Эстепона в Испании. Официальной причиной смерти установлено — смерть в результате сердечного приступа. По результатам более поздней экспертизы, установлена причина, вызвавшая сердечный приступ — это смертельная доза алкоголя в крови гениального гитариста (380 мл-л/гр. алкоголя на один дц/литр крови).
Похороны легендарного гитариста Гэри Мура состоялись 25 Февраля 2011 года. Гэри Мур был погребен на маленьком кладбище небольшой деревни вблизи Брайтона (Англия). Именно там, недалеко от дома, где на протяжении последних пятнадцати лет он жил со своей семьей.
Он был отцом четверых детей. Прощальными словами его дочери Лили были: «…отец был человеком в цветастой рубашке, который обладал детскими качествами и был источником вдохновения для многих, а также личностью, которую невозможно забыть…».
